El Retiro Park, also called Buen Retiro Park or simply El Retiro, is one of Madrid's largest parks. It covers 1.4 km2 near the city center, close to the Alcalá Gate and the Prado Museum.
The park once belonged to the Spanish monarchy, but it became a public park in 1868 after the Glorious Revolution. Today, it features gardens, monuments, galleries, and event spaces. Don't miss the Crystal Palace and the Great Pond, where you can rent rowboats. There are also rose gardens to explore.
In 2021, El Retiro became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Paseo del Prado.
