Parque del Este, officially named Parque Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda in honor of the Venezuelan national hero, is Caracas's most popular recreation area. Located in the Sucre Municipality, this public park covers 82 hectares and features a planetarium, a small zoo, beautiful lakes, and lush tropical vegetation. Designed by Roberto Burle Marx, along with Fernando Tabora and John Stoddart, the park opened in 1961 and is one of the city's most important.
